We Love Dr. Lanpher because.....

Testimonials!

Ear Infection Help

Dr. Lanpher helped our 2 year old son when he had double ear infections that were constant. We were worried we would have to put tubes in his ears and that he would struggle with this problem long term. But luckily, my mother-in-law who has been a patient of Dr. Lanpher's for many years talked to my husband and I and gave us an informational pamphlet on how Chiropractic can help with ear infections. We took our son in to get adjusted and after just a few adjustments he had no more ear infections and did not have to get tubes put in his ears. We are very thankful that Dr. Lanpher helped our son.

Testimonial on Colic Relief through Chiropractic
I took my 4 wk old daughter to Dr. Lanpher to be treated for reflux. Dr. Lanpher took the time to explain to me why infants have reflux, and how these treatments will help. After just one adjustment, I noticed a huge difference. She was sleeping, had less gas, and best of all her colic was significantly better. She's 11 weeks now, and still goes for her regular adjustments.

                  New to Chiropractic
Two years prior to my first Chiropractic treatment, I had major surgery that caused me to have terribly sharp pains in my right hip. Having never been adjusted before or gone under the knife before, I assumed I simply had to live with this pain that made it almost unbearable to sit down. Dr. Lanpher assessed my pain and examined my spine and found that my right hip was simply out of place. He adjusted it and the pain went away! It came back a few days later because my hip had again gotten out of place, but he adjusted it again and the pain went away again! He then examined my feet to make sure they weren't feeding into my hip problem, and found out that I had fallen arches. This was putting stress on my whole right leg and then I was walking abnormally due to the pain and tension, which finally led to my hip going out of place again! My life was literally changed by those first few adjustments and my first pair of arch supports, which kept me inline from the feet up. I was able to sit and stand with out any pain!

Pregnancy Joy
I had been unable to get pregnant for 5 years. My husband and I hit a deer with our vehicle on July 16th. I then started Chiropractic treatments on July 17th at Lanpher Chiropractic Clinic. My low back was mainly adjusted in those first few visits. On August 21st, I had an appointment scheduled with a reproductive endocrinologist, as how to go about my fertility treatment. In order to start the medication that my doctor wanted me to take I was required to take a pregnancy test, and on September 6th, 2009, that test came back positive! I WAS PREGNANT!! The only explanation was that the adjustments that I had been getting on my low back from the motor vehicle accident had actually helped me get pregnant. When I told the staff at Lanpher Chiropractic, we looked at the calendar, and the first treatments I had received were one week before my husband and I conceived our very first baby! That was no coincidence to either of us. Thank you so much to everyone at Lanpher Chiropractic Clinic.

                                              Freedom from Yeast
I have been a patient of Dr. Lanpher's for many years, and had contracted a terrible yeast infection. I wasn't sure if the doctor could help me, but after some discussion he suggested a restricted eating plan for a few weeks and some natural supplements such as Acidophilus DDS for probiotic treatment, and my yeast infection went away! I was so miserable and in constant discomfort as any woman could attest to when having a yeast infection, and Dr Lanpher helped me naturally.
-Maria P.

Dizziness and Lightheadedness
Dr. Lanpher has helped me so much! All summer I suffered with lightheadedness and dizziness, and Dr. Lanpher treated me by adjusting my neck and doing the Epley's Maneuver on me. My head is now "normal" again. A few years ago my hand was so numb that I could hardly use it. Getting treatments from Dr. Lanpher made me well again. And I'm sure by continuing to take treatments I won't have to face back surgery, which is great because my goal has always been "no surgery and no drugs".

Best Kept Secret in Sioux Falls
Hi this is Colleen Wolf. I was seeing another chiropractor when I found out about Dr. Lanpher back in June of 2011. I was doing ok with the other chiropractor but I was not greatly impressed with the results I was getting. I wanted more out of my sessions than I was getting besides getting my neck adjusted, having exercises to do and E-stim, none of which was bad; it just seemed endless and boring and to be honest; not very effective.
I wanted more than adjustments to my neck and back; I was interested in the kinesiology side of things; I am open to homeopathic remedies and found Dr. Lanpher has knowledge and experience with unconventional methods that helped me tremendously. I told him he was the "best kept secret in SF" and I still believe it!
I had a run in with a deer in December and had several adjustments done during an 8 week period; the last of which was today! And I had no adjustments made because I didn't need any and I feel great! Thanks to Dr. Lanpher and his patient, kind and winning ways I will continue to see him on an as needed basis and recommend him to anyone who is tired of the mainstream chiropractic methods.

Vitamin Help
My son was diagnosed as having spinal meningitis at the age of 14 months. Dr. Lanpher gave my son chiropractic treatments and a specific regimen of vitamins to help him overcome the illness. The nurse and pediatrician could not believe how well he was doing, and they commented that whatever else we were doing we should keep it up because he was making dramatic improvements. The average white blood cell count of someone having spinal meningitis is around 10,000, and my son's white blood cell count was 40,000. He was a very sick little boy. Yet he survived with no side effects. I give thanks to Dr. Lanpher for all his wisdom to help my young son.

Free Vitamins?? Between the Meal and the Peel!

Vitamin P – Bioflavonoids

Lanpher Chiropractic Clinic

Bioflavonoids, also called vitamin P, are not strictly speaking a vitamin, but for easy classification, we are listing it as one. The term bioflavonoid refers to many different ingredients and includes hesperin, hesperidin, eriodictyol, quercetin, quercertrin, rutin, etc. This nutrient cannot be manufactured by the body and must be supplied in the diet.

Bioflavonoids are vital in their ability to increase the strength of the capillaries (blood vessels) and to regulate their permeability. They assist vitamin C in keeping collagen, the intercellular “cement” in healthy condition; are essential for the proper absorption and use of vitamin C; prevents vitamin C from being destroyed in the body by oxidation; beneficial in hypertension; help hemorrhages and ruptures in the capillaries and connective tissues and builds a protective barrier against infections. Quercetin is a very highly concentrated form of bioflavonoids derived from citrus fruits.

Bioflavonoids enhance the action of vitamin C and for this reason they should be taken together. Bioflavonoids are effectively used in the treatment of sport injuries, as they are pain relieving.  They may also be used in relieving pain in the legs and across the back, and can lessen the symptoms of prolonged bleeding, a low serum calcium, as well as oral herpes.

Bioflavonoids may also be active in preserving the structures of capillaries, have an antibacterial effect and promote circulation. They may be indicated in the production of bile, lowering blood cholesterol levels and in the prevention and treatment of cataracts.

Bioflavonoids are thought to enhance the absorption of vitamin C, and possibly to prolong the effectiveness of it as well. These are super active substances, and can add a great deal to your nutritional needs in health and disease.

This nutrient acts together with vitamin C to help maintain the thin walls of the capillaries, therefore preventing bleeding or bruising. Bioflavonoids have been linked to having an antibacterial effect. Stimulating bile production, promoting circulation and even assisting with fighting allergies, asthma, etc.

If a diet contains enough fruits and vegetables, bioflavonoids should not be deficient, but a deficiency would show up as bruising. Bioflavonoids could be of help in iron deficiency, as well as where antioxidants are indicated and none are present. Since it helps with the absorption of iron.

Bioflavonoids are found in the white material just beneath citrus peel, as well as in peppers, grapes, pine bark, onions, garlic, blue and red berries, green tea, as well as buckwheat.

Absorption of the bioflavonoids can be a bit slow. But small amounts can be stored in the body. If you are suffering from cold sores, consider taking a supplement of 1,000mg vitamin C and 1,000 mg of bioflavonoids, and then 500 mg of each, three times a day. A daily intake of vitamin C and bioflavonoids may make you less susceptible to cold sores.

Stress and Adrenal Fatigue

The Dis-Ease Called Stress

The things you think about and dwell on throughout your day have a direct effect on your stress levels, which regulate how much cortisol, or stress hormone, is produced in your body.

Along these lines, new research published in the journal Health Psychology has found that meditation  can help lower stress and cortisol levels, which in turn can help you lose excess weight and avoid developing "cortisol belly" or that excess weight around your middle.

Researchers from the University of California, Davis have been working on a long-term study known as The Shamatha Project that seeks to figure out how meditation practices influence brain activity and mental health. The Shamatha Project is said to be the most comprehensive study on meditation to date, having already made a number of fascinating discoveries about how the way we think and feel can be  influenced through meditation.

As far as stress and cortisol production are concerned, a team of researchers led by Clifford Saron, an associate research professor at UC Davis, found that cortisol levels rise and fall in direct correlation with stress levels. And when people engage in meditation practices such as the mindfulness of breathing, or observing their own mental states and nature of consciousness, their stress and cortisol levels decrease. This leads to greater feelings of joy, kindness, compassion, and empathy for others.

Easy ways you can incorporate these ideas in your everyday routine and life are: yoga, morning stretch routines where you notice how your body feels, taking time for yourself during the day (even if it's 5 minutes) and relaxing while practicing some deep breathing and simply focusing your thoughts on something positive such as a good talk with a friend, or the things you are grateful for in your life.

Adrenal Fatigue

The long-term release of cortisol in response to high stress levels can lead to a condition known as adrenal fatigue. This happens when the adrenal gland is no longer able to properly produce and release hormones due to the high demand. The health consequences of adrenal fatigue include lowered immune function, hypertension, high blood sugar, reduced libido, and bone loss among many other symptoms.

Along with the at-home therapies you can incorporate into your every day life as mentioned earlier, Chiropractic is your best bet to relieve stress on the body and mind. Your brain, spinal cord and all the resulting nerves control every action that happens in your entire body. Since your skull, spine and other joints protect that vital nervous system, a regular check-up is always a good idea. If you are suffering from adrenal fatigue or just adrenal stress, there are also supplements that can help detoxify your system and support your body getting back to a state of EASE instead of DIS-EASE.

With all the things demanding our time and attention, we are spread extremely thin. Stress seems like a normal part of our daily lives and it's hard to get around it.  That is why you need to take time to let your body re-set and let your friendly Chiropractor put your spine back in line!

Infants Need Chiropractic Care

Infants Need Chiropractic Care!

Lanpher Chiropractic Clinic

This statement confuses some people who believe that Chiropractors primairly treat back pain. In reality chiropractic deals with correcting subluxations. Subluxations are areas of interference to the nervous system caused by pressure or irritation from bones in the spine. Chiropractors correct these subluxations. One of the most common causes of a subluxation in an infant is the birth process.

Chiropractors have been warning people of the danger to newborns from the common birth processes used today. Birth is a natural phenomenon that should not be viewed or treated as a medical condition. However, in an attempt to “manage” the birth process, many problems are created.

The most prevalent danger chiropractors have been warning about when it comes to the birth process is Traumatic Birth Syndrome resulting in the creation of subluxations. Numerous articles and experts have warned of the damage that occurs to the nervous system in the neck of newborns during the trauma involved in the common birth process. This damage ranges from mild subluxations in the upper neck to more serious subluxations involving spinal cord damage, neural hemorrhage and central nervous system problems.

Chiropractors have been stressing for years the importance of having newborns checked for vertebral subluxations. Checking the spine of an infant is painless and easy. The importance of a developing baby being free of nerve interference from subluxation cannot be understated. Even infants that appear healthy may have subluxations due to the trauma of birth. All babies deserve the best chance at a healthy happy life.

The Unknown Dangers of Antibiotics

The Unknown Dangers of Antibiotics

Most of us have taken antibiotics at some point in our lives. We take these powerful drugs because we are told by our healthcare professionals that we must. After all, who would want to risk a serious bacterial infection when it could be easily avoided? Antibiotics are designed to kill disease-causing bacteria, however, they cannot distinguish between good and bad bacteria. In addition, they contribute to our largest source of toxins - those generated within our own digestive system.

There are over 100 trillion good bacteria in our bodies that play a vital role in our overall health and well-being, particularly to immune function and digestion.
If the bacteria in our digestive systems are out of balance (or absent), a chain of undesirable events is initiated including improper digestion, malnutrition and incomplete absorption of nutrients. The beneficial bacteria in our digestive tracts produce necessary vitamins including B vitamins and K vitamins. Without the beneficial bacteria in our digestive tract, a vitamin deficiency can result.
Furthermore, when antibiotics kill beneficial bacteria, undesirable yeasts and bacteria thrive and take over. Candida is an excellent example and affects more and more people causing uncomfortable symptoms such as itching, rashes, headaches, and lethargy. When antibiotics kill beneficial bacteria, it sets the stage for uncontrollable candida growth. Yeasts also produce immune-reactive substances which forces the immune system to work on overdrive. It eventually can stress the immune system to the point of immune suppression or even total breakdown. Yeasts also inhibit magnesium absorption, damage gut tissue (which leads to leaky gut syndrome), and a variety of other health problems ranging from chronic fatigue to allergies to arthritis.
Because of antibiotics, ‘incurable’ strains of bacteria are being discovered. Many infectious diseases that were once treated with antibiotics are now resistant to them. More and more people die each year because of antibiotic-resistant infections acquired in hospitals. A World Health Organization (WHO) report stated that: "the spread of untreatable infections is threatening to undermine modern advances in health care. In many hospitals, antibiotic-resistant staphylococcus infections are epidemic. The inappropriate use of antibiotics is to blame both for the increase in drug-resistant microbes and for the weakened immune system of patients." Weakened immune systems play a crucial role in the development of AIDS, autoimmune disorders, asthma, allergies and plenty of other health problems.
The best course of action whether or not you are currently on antibiotics is to be consuming probiotics, which contain live bacteria that will repopulate the gut.
If you neglect to help replenish the good bacteria after a course of antibiotics, you are risking reinfection, as your immune system will be compromised. A good practice is to begin taking probiotics while taking antibiotics; however, you should wait at least a few hours after your dose of antibiotics to take a dose of probiotics. And the best practice is to avoid taking antibiotics at all!

There are also probiotic supplements available that come in tablet, powder capsule or liquid form. These are all available at Lanpher Chiropractic Clinic, and Dr. Lanpher is available for testing of any of these supplements.

1. Acidophilus DDS - This natural probiotic will repopulate the gut with the good bacteria and keep the bad bacteria in check. This will prevent yeast overgrowth and unwanted secondary symptoms.

2. Candida High Potency 9 - This liquid form of probiotic is actually a detox system that comes with three products. One kills the bad bacteria that is growing out of control in the gut, one repopulates the gut with good bacteria and one heals the lining of the gut to prevent further infections and problems.

There may be times when taking an antibiotic is necessary; however, the majority of the time they are used without sufficient cause and end up doing much more damage than good. Most bacterial infections can be healed naturally. So the next time you get a chest cold, instead of running to the M.D., contact your Natural Care Provider.... Dr. Lanpher for some natural alternatives that allow your body to heal itself and become stronger by doing so!
Here are some powerful, natural immune support supplements that promote overall health and well being:

1. CPA - General overall immune support, and natural anti-histamine support for allergies

2. Cataplex AC - General overall immune support

3. Immuplex - Immune support for viral infections

4. Congaplex - Immune support for bacterial infections

5. Garlics and Onions - Both of these foods have been used over the centuries for their antibiotic properties. Garlic has both antibacterial and anti-fungal effects, and has shown in studies to reduce a bacteria seen in head colds and such. Just add more garlic and onions to your everyday diet to prevent your system from getting run down with the bacteria we all encounter everyday.
6. Oregano - Oregano shows an antibacterial and anti-fungal effect and is found in our ADP supplement.
You don't have to worry about natural antibiotics killing the good bacteria in your gut as they, unlike prescription antibiotics, are able to target only the bad bacteria. You can use these natural remedies on a regular basis, and Dr. Lanpher is available for counseling and testing by appointment.

Hiatal Hernia? Chiropractic Can Help

Hiatal Hernia? Chiropractic Can Help

by Dr Rob R. Lanpher D.C., D.A.B.C.O.

Do You Need Antacids or a Chiropractic Adjustment?

You might not think about going to your chiropractor to get relief from abdominal discomfort, but think again…

Here at Lanpher Chiropractic Clinic, we see many patients who have been dealing with digestive related distress – some for a very long time.  The stomach is a major organ along the digestive pathway, and a big player in a condition known as a hiatal hernia – which basically means that the stomach spasms and pushes up on your diaphragm leading to symptoms such as:

• heartburn

• pain in the upper abdomen

• chest pain

• difficulty breathing

• anxiety

• panic attack symptoms

How the Stomach Can Create So Many Problems

The condition of ‘heartburn’ is also known as GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) wherein some of the acidic contents of the stomach escapes through the the top of the stomach and projects upwards into the esophagus causing a  painful burning sensation in the chest.

The esophagus (that tube running from the mouth to the stomach) penetrates through a large muscle called the diaphragm in its journey from the mouth to the stomach. The opening in the diaphragm through which the esophagus passes is called a hiatus (which simply means ‘hole’)

Normally, when we swallow and food goes into the stomach, the hole at the top of the stomach closes, keeping food and the acidic digestive juices within the confines of the stomach.  Under certain circumstances, the upper portion of the stomach actually pushes up through the hole (hiatus) in the diaphragm causing a ‘hiatal hernia.’  This can result in pain in the stomach area, chest pain and the more commonly known heartburn sensation.

As with most conditions, there is a range of severity for hiatal hernias from mild to moderate to severe.  Severe conditions may require more serious medical interventions such as surgery.

A Manual ‘Adjustment’ May Be All You Need

For mild and moderate conditions, however, a manual procedure to physically pull the stomach down below the diaphragm can be very helpful.  Along with dietary changes that reveal why the stomach is spasming and possible nutritional supplements to reduce stomach acidity, this manual procedure can bring immediate relief or produce gradual improvement over repeated manipulations.

The stomach pull-down procedure (Hiatal Hernia Technique) is performed here at Lanpher Chiropractic Office by a doctor of chiropractic who is trained in the technique. The patient can either stand against a wall or lie on a treatment table to receive the technique.  While there may be some mild discomfort associated with the technique, it’s worth it considering there is often immediate relief.  The patient can take a deeper breath and the  pressure and pain subsides.  The procedure may need to be repeated multiple times for lasting results.

Causes of Hiatal Hernia

There are many causes of the stomach being caught in the diaphragm area. Examples are varied from vomiting, being constipated, eating gassy foods, bending over with a full stomach, eating something that makes you bloat, too much liquid with a meal, not being able to burp, lying down too soon after you eat, anything that creates pressure on the abdomen below the stomach. Women who are pregnant also get reflux or heartburn from the baby pressing up on their stomach. This procedure is safe and helpful for the above listed symptoms. Once the patient understands the cause, usually the condition can be resolved and the symptoms go away. This is much better than being on reflux or heartburn medication for the rest of your life.

Final thoughts

In addition to the above, our Chiropractor can perform a manipulation called a ‘diaphragmatic release’ that can reduce the tension of the diaphragm as well as related muscles in the area of the rib cage.

Also, chiropractic adjustments, performed in the neck and mid-back can positively affect nerves that go to the diaphragm itself.

Sometimes part of the cause is inadequate digestive enzymes, these can be a big help in correcting this condition. Also a herbal formula that has great success and is used in China at healing clinics is beneficial. All of these products can be discussed with Dr. Lanpher as he evaluates your condition

If you or anyone you know suffers from acid reflux, heartburn, chest pain or panic attacks, please consider getting evaluated for a hiatal hernia. A simple, natural and drug-free therapy may be all that’s needed to eradicate your discomfort.

Please discuss this with Dr. Lanpher if you or other members of your family have any of these symptoms or problems.

Thank You,

Lanpher Chiropractic Clinic

Dizzy? Lightheaded? Head over to your Chiropractor!

Are you dizzy or lightheaded? You might have:
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
and should consider the Epleys Maneuver
By Dr. Lanpher D.C., D.A.B.C.O

Definition
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is a non-life-threatening sudden onset dizziness due to certain changes in head position. It is the most common cause of vertigo in adults.

Symptoms
The classic symptom is vertigo or dizziness that occurs shortly after a change of position, such as getting out of bed in the morning, rolling over in bed, bending over, or looking up. The dizziness usually lasts for a minute or so, but balance problems may persist for hours or days after the episode. It often occurs spontaneously, but may follow head injury, ear infection or upper respiratory infection.

Causes
BPPV is thought to be causes by microscopic crystals, or otoconia, accumulating in the semicircular canals of the inner ear. When these become displaced they can stimulate part of the inner ear that is sensitive to rotational movement of the head. When this happens, the person may develop a sense of spinning.

Treatment
Once diagnosed with BPPV, you will be taken through a specific maneuver that will require changes in body positioning. This is to reposition the microscopic crystals in your inner ear and thus alleviate the dizziness. This procedure is highly effective in treating BPPV. Research has shown that this type of treatment is effective 80% of the time.

If you do not have resolution of your symptoms after the in-office maneuver, you may need to return to the office for another procedure. Patients who do not respond to the first treatment and undergo a second have an overall success rate of greater than 90%. You may also be given instructions for exercises that can be done at home to help alleviate any residual dizziness.

Dealing with BPPV
The most important thing to do if you have BPPV is to STAY ACTIVE! If you avoid moving into certain positions because it makes you dizzy, you will prolong the symptoms. Staying active will actually help to resolve the dizziness

Canalith Repositioning Treatment
Instructions following the procedure:

For 48 hours after undergoing CRT, you should keep your head and neck moving as one unit. You should sleep in a semi-recumbent position for 2 nights. This can be accomplished by sleeping in a recliner or by putting several pillows behind you in bed or on a sofa. Then you may return to lying down, but do not sleep on the side that was treated for the next 5 nights.

For at least 1 week, avoid provoking head positions that might bring BPPV on again. Try to stay as upright as possible.

After 1 week you may go back to your normal routine.

If you continue having dizziness after returning to your regular routine, contact Lanpher Chiropractic Clinic at 605-334-8073 to schedule a follow-up appointment.
